Behold Your Mother
John tells us, “Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother, and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, ‘Woman, behold your son!’ Then he said to the disciple, ‘Behold your mother!’ And from that moment the disciple made a place for her in his home.” John 19:25–27
Some people think Jesus was simply making practical arrangements for Mary. They think: Jesus was an only child. Joseph was dead. So, Jesus needed someone to take care of His Mother. But that explanation is too small.
Mary was not alone at the Cross. There were others standing there, including Mary the wife of Clopas. Tradition often connects Clopas with Joseph’s family. And in that culture, if Jesus were merely arranging family support, He would not normally entrust His Mother to someone outside the family while relatives were present.
So, something much greater is happening. Jesus is not merely entrusting Mary to John. He is entrusting John to Mary. And in John, Jesus is entrusting all His disciples to Mary, not just Catholics, but every person He came to save. That means Mary is your spiritual Mother because Jesus said so, “Behold your mother.”

Behold Your Son
Notice that Jesus speaks to Mary first. He does not say, “John, take care of My Mother.” He says to Mary, “Woman, behold your son.” That means Mary is the one receiving a new mission.
And why does Jesus call her “Woman”? Because she is the Woman of Genesis 3:15, the Woman who will crush the head of the ancient serpent. She is the Woman of Cana, who prompted the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus. She is the Woman of Revelation, clothed with the sun, crowned with stars, whose children are those who keep God’s commandments and bear witness to Jesus.
Mary cooperated with Jesus in the mission of saving the world. Now, from the Cross, her cooperation takes the form of spiritual motherhood.

Mother of the Church
How can Mary be the Mother of the Church? Is that just an honorary title with no real substance behind it? No. Mary is truly Mother of the Church because the Church is the Body of Christ. The whole Christian life is to become another Christ. But how does that happen?
The Holy Spirit conceives the life of Christ. The Holy Spirit forms Christ in us. The Holy Spirit directs the Christian life. In this way, the Holy Spirit acts as our Divine Mother. But the Holy Spirit has chosen to carry out this maternal mission of conceiving and forming Christ in us through Mary. That is the pattern from the beginning.
At the Annunciation and Bethlehem, the Holy Spirit and Mary conceived and gave birth to Christ the Head. At Calvary and Pentecost, the Holy Spirit and Mary conceived and gave birth to the Body of Christ, the Church. So, the Holy Spirit acts first as Mother of the Church. And by the power of the Holy Spirit working through her, Mary becomes Mother of the Church.
That means she is your Mother. Not symbolically. Not sentimentally. Really. Jesus gave her to you from the Cross. And when Mary comes into your life, the Holy Spirit forms Jesus in you.

Join Your Mother’s Rescue Mission
What does a good mother do when her children are in danger? She comes to help them.
That is why Mary keeps coming in all her apparitions like the Miraculous Medal, Lourdes, Fatima, Kibeho, San Nicolas, Medjugorje and so many other moments in history.
Why does she come? Because her children are in danger. Her message is simple and urgent: God is real. Sin will destroy you. Return to God through prayer and conversion. Mary asks us to pray the Rosary every day because prayer is the path to conversion.
To do this, the Rosary must be a real meditation where we actually listen to the Word of God. We ask, “Am I living this or not?” Then we make one concrete resolution. That is how we change.
Mary also calls us to Confession at least once a month, because regular Confession forces us to examine our conscience, see what needs to change, receive mercy and the grace to begin again.

Our Mission
Mary is not calling us only to private devotion. She is calling us to mission. We are in a spiritual war for the souls of the people we love, especially those who do not yet know the love of God. This Rosary Podcast is air support. But no war is won by air support alone. Our Lady needs ground troops. That means us.
And the method is friendship, authentic friendship. Friendship is the bridge by which we cross over to others and help them cross over to God.
So ask yourself: Am I intentionally spending time with the people God has placed in my life, my spouse, children, parents, in-laws, friends, coworkers, and neighbors? Would they say I truly know them, understand them, love them, and care for them?
Today, choose one person God has placed in your life. Make one concrete plan this week to do something good together: share a meal, take a walk, go for coffee, work on a project, or simply talk. When you are with them, do not argue, preach, or pressure. Ask good questions. Listen. Try to understand them. Then, when the time is right, gently invite them one step closer to God.
Choose one person. Plan one good activity. Have one real conversation. Build the bridge of friendship. Help Mary bring her children home.
